restored
Hytest Black Racer
Very rare 4.5lb Hytest Black racing axe.
Most examples were produced in a 5lb weight, with very few 4.5lb versions ever made.
This piece was sourced from a former competition chopper in Tasmania and is hung on a distinctive Whiskey River Purpleheart handle — a setup known for stirring strong opinions and plenty of conversation among axe enthusiasts.
Over time it earned the nickname “The Demon Axe,” a name given by fellow axe mates that has stuck ever since.
This axe has since been passed on to a good mate, in Washington.
RESTORED
Keesteel KC23 Keech
Sourced from a former competition chopper in Tasmania, this piece retains a full head weight of over 5lb.
The axe was carefully reprofiled by hand and hung on a custom hickory racing handle, built to suit its character and balance.
It has since been sent to its new home in the United States.
RESTORED
Hytest Racer
An extremely hard find, as most competition wood choppers would grind off the original stamps while profiling the head.
This example weighs 5lb 2oz and is hung on a custom-made hickory racing handle, built to suit the character of the axe.
It has since been sent to its new home in New York.
RESTORED
Hytest Forged 5 Tool
A very hard-to-find example in over-weight form, with the head weighing 5lb 1oz and retaining clear, well-defined stamps all round.
It’s hung on a custom two-tone hickory handle with a balanced, clean hang suited to the character of the head.
This axe has since been sent to Washington.

This piece has since been sent to its new home in the United States.
